’A penny for your thoughts’ betyder, at når man ser en anden fordybet i sine egne tanker, siger man den lille sætning ovenfor, så at den pågældende vil sige noget om, hvad han eller hun tænker. At man vil betale en ’penny’ (ca. 5 øre) ligger hen i det uvisse.

Da jeg forleden kiggede i bogreolerne i den sektion, som har noget med religion at gøre, faldt jeg over en lille engelsk katekismus, som efter sigende virkelig skulle havde kostet en ’penny’. Det lille blå 9 x 12 cm hæfte, udgivet i 1921 og har Cardinal Bourne’s imprimatur, indeholder 370 spørgsmål over Den katolske Tro i form af korte, nogle gange længere spørgsmål, og svar.

Jeg kunne tænke mig at skrive ét spørgsmål og svar fra hæftet hver fredag her på hjemmesiden, som optakt til den kommende søndag. Mange af dem vil sandsynligvis virker noget antikverede, man forhåbentligt sætte vore tanker, børnelærdom og trosholdninger i sving igen. Jeg håber I vil kunne nyde disse små citater. English Version

’A penny for your thoughts’ means that when you see someone deep in thought you say this little sentence, so that the person in question will say something about they are thinking. That you will pay a penny for them must remain unanswered.

A few days ago, when I was looking through the section of the bookcases which contain the books on religion I fell over a little catechism, which according to history, should have cost only one penny. The little blue 9 x 12 cm. booklet, published in 1921 and containing Cardinal Bourne’s imprimatur, contains 370 questions concerning the Catholic Faith in the form of short, sometimes longer, questions and answers.

I would like to write one of these questions and answers each Friday here on the Home Page as a sort of prelude to the coming Sunday. Many of them will, more than likely, appear rather antiquated; yet nevertheless set our thoughts, childhood teaching and our relations to the faith going again.

I hope you enjoy these small quotes.
